Cilantro Avocado Dressing: Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Avocado. Use a large, ripe avocado to make this recipe. A ripe avocado is soft to the touch & not hard.
  • Olive Oil. avocado oil is a great substitute for olive oil in this recipe.
  • Sour Cream. full-fat Greek yogurt is a good substitute for sour cream.
  • Lime Juice. Fresh or bottled lime juice both can be used in this recipe.
  • Honey. I don’t recommend substitutions for the honey, although you can use granulated sugar, or just omit it all together.
  • Minced Garlic. Use fresh minced garlic or jarred.
  • Fresh Cilantro. Please do not substitute the cilantro. If you want an Italian-style avocado sauce try this avocado pasta sauce with basil.

Then, blend or pulse the blender/food processor until the mixture is smooth. You may need to pause, scrape down the sides and continue if you have an appliance with a large container.

Store/Freeze

Transfer the lime avocado dressing to a glass container with a lid and store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it or up to 5 days. You can also freeze it for up to 1 month.

To prevent browning: Store it in a glass jar and tap it on the counter to get rid of any air bubbles. Then, either sprinkle lime juice over the top/surface of the dressing, or carefully press plastic wrap into the surface so that no air can get to it. Then, secure the lid tightly.
